It doesn’t matter what level skater you are, as long as you’re respectful and chill, we’ll accept you! Perfect example is this Indian guy who just recently started skating and has been coming to our park a fair bit. He might not be that good yet, but I remember when I first started out at the park, and watching him start to get a feel for the park has actually been really fulfilling! Even if it’s just stuff like getting the hang of rolling up and down banks, seeing him progress has been bringing back memories of when I first started out.

Here's a tip: People who are good at something or are part of a community will always respect you for trying something new.

When I started skating like 15 years ago I didn't have access to this kind of knowledge, getting back into it after a 7 year hiatus is going way smoother with your help! Much love❤

I was always scared about what people would say about me at a skatepark because I'm a beginner, but, now I'm not scared anymore, thanks!

I think an important lesson is how to react when you collide with someone at the skatepark. It’s bound to happen at some point.
First is no hard feelings. It was an accident. They happen. There’s no reason to fight over it.
Second lesson is the person left standing helps the other guy up. The guy on the ground will appreciate it. If they don’t want your help and get crabby with you, see lesson one.
Part three. Say you’re sorry, both of you. It doesn’t matter who’s fault it was. Yeah it hurt, but it’s over with. Always strive to be the bigger man in the situation, both of you, and I’m not talking about size.
Fourth and final. Keep it pushing. No need to be standing around sucking each others d!cks all day. Forgive and forget. You obviously didn’t land your trick, get back to it.
This is how I always handle it. My model for it was the Washington Square Park scene in the movie Kids. (Watch it if you haven’t) Casper (Justin Pierce) borrowed Harold Hunters board to skate around. He then knocked into some dude. He picks up his board, says “Sorry money”. Then keeps it pushing. The other dude couldn’t let it go and wanted to act tough. We all know what happened next. He got what he was asking for. If you really want to be a good skater, you have to put in the time and work it takes to get good. In all that time you’re going to experience all the best, and worst parts of skateboarding. Your going to pay your dues. Stuff like this is inevitable, don’t sweat it. Just be glad you didn’t run into a bmx’er on his bike. Believe me, that sucks. 😖 Be cool out there. ✌️

If you get off your board to retrieve someone's board after they failed a trick, that is the sign of ultimate respect

I started maybe 2 months ago and there are some days that I am at the park and people, that are watching me, sometimes just randomly give me some advices and stuff with me even having to ask for them! It’s really nice when it happens cuss it’s a great example of being embraced by the community and not being seen as annoying or some just for being a beginner

One of my favorite things is seeing that 4 yo coming to the skate park for the first time and being afraid and everyone pulling together to help him out and make him feel like he's apart of the group.

Reminds me of One time years ago I got convinced to ride in the bowl for the first time (BMX) and everyone was very supportive, Rodan rode around had some fun and when it was time to get out I had trouble and couldn't get enough speed, and a mix of skateboarders and BMXers grabbed my bike and then my hand and helped me up, all smiles all super nice and I had a great time, just because I was honest and said I wasn't very good but I wanted to try it and they helped me out :)

I have an advice for new skaters. Do your own thing. Focus on yourself and your improvement. Be kind to everyone and if someone tries to bully or make fun of you, chin-up and go ask them if there's a problem. 100% of bullies are pussies and they will back off. Stand your ground and don't let some pricks intimidate you.
