Elias Parish Alvars - Souvenir de 'Don Pasquale', Op. 74

Gaetano Donizetti's 1843 opera 'Don Pasquale' is about the titular Don and his nephew Ernesto, who refuses to accept the marriage that his uncle has arranged for him. Alvars chooses multiple arias from Donizetti's opera for his 'Souvenir de Don Pasquale', a duet for the harp and piano. These are the Act I arias 'Vado, corro', 'Sogno soave e casto', and 'Due parole ancor di volo', and the Act III aria 'Aspetta, aspetta, cara sposina'. Rather than the arias be woven into a dramatic fantasy, the composition is in the potpourri style, with the themes simply following each other, loosely connected.
