Scuzzy, OMGosh 😂😂😂 I haven’t heard that word in over 50 years. Very popular in the early 70’s. Thanks for the tips and the memories!

I knew there would be a day when I watched Ms. Pam & could say, "I already do that!" 🎉😊 I've been doing this over 20 yrs when I saw the tip on an ep of Oprah. Remember Ms. Pam's sensible tip to CLEAN THE SPONGE FIRST. 💖

The Good Housekeeping Institute worked with EMSL Analytical Testing Lab in Westmont, New Jersey to find out if using the dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, bleach or vinegar removed the most bacteria — and bleach won.

You can just put sponges in a (dirty) bowl and pour boiling water over them. Leave them in the bowl covered with the boiling water for 1-3 min and then rinse them. They will be completely odorless. Doing this in the microwave, will probably release the bad odors into the microwave.

Boiling sponges in the microwave to disinfect is brilliant work. I’m learning something new everyday!

If you don't have a microwave, fresh air and direct sunlight does the same.

"Scuzzy" One of my favorite modifiers. Mom used it often. 😅

Thank you for that, I was socking mine in bleach for years and that seems to work. This is a better idea 💡 and I won't waste to much of the bleach products. Thank you Ms. Pam.

I wash mine in the washer on sanitizer hot with the cleaning rags.

My system is like this ...

New, fresh blue sponges are for dishes.
New, fresh pink sponges are for body (way better exfoliation than natural ones, terrycloths, or poufs).

Washed and sanitized blue sponges are for kitchen detailing other than dishes. W&S Pinks are for scrubbing the bathroom.

I also have a pile of green ones... Those are for car, furniture, windows, and the like.

This is only a good ststem IF you fully understand how to wash and sanitize them. If not, you can spread mildew and illness throughout your home.
