A song about fear, childhood and the changing of seasons, the tender 'Michicant' featured not only the achingly beautiful falsetto of Bon Iver but also a breathtaking sax solo from bassist Michael Lewis. A stunning highlight from their world premiere performances of 'Cercle' at Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE festival.

Now entering its eighth year, Vivid LIVE is a two-week celebration of ambitious contemporary music at Sydney Opera House and is part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.

Produced by: Sydney Opera House
Audio Mix Engineer: Xandy Whitesel

They used this song in nine perfect strangers and the moment where the mom and her deceased son both sing “and it wasn’t yet the spring” I lost it. Bawling . Couldn’t describe why but his music hits so different and it’s just the release of emotions it gives. This man is a global treasure

This concert has been one of the most magical and surreal moments I've ever experienced. What a gift to the world this is, for a few moments forget about everything else that's going on in the world, just listen and let go!

I have been listening to Bon Iver for years, and I've been contemplating what about them I am so drawn to. In this video, it came to me. Each person in the band doesn't just compose notes, doesn't just add their part to the song. They have come to terms with how they feel in the moment that they are in. Nostalgia makes you feel strongly as you once did in the past, Bon Iver's music allows you to genuinely experience your feelings in the here and now. It may evoke past feelings, but you are feeling them again, right now. So much of life wants you to look to the future or remember the past. When I listen to this music, I am experiencing life in the now.

Lyrics:

I was unafraid, I was a boy, I was a tender age
Melic in the naked, knew a lake and drew the lofts for the page
Hurdle all the waitings up, know it wasn't wedded love, why?

Four long minutes in and it was over, it'd all be back
And the frost took up the eyes

Pressed against the pane
Could see the veins and there was poison out
Resting in a raze, the inner claims I hadn't breadth to shake
Searching for an inner clout, may not take another bout, why?
Honey in the hale could fill the pales of loving less with vain
Hon', it wasn't yet the spring

Aiming and it sunk and we were drunk and we had fleshed it out
Nose up in the globes, you never know if you are passing out
No, it wasn't maiden-up, the falling or the faded luck, why?
Hung up in the ivory, both were climbing for a finer cause
Love can hardly leave the room
With your heart

This is the most spiritual song I have ever heard. This song, this version in particular, has affected me so much ever since I first heard it. Thank you, Bon Iver, for perfectly translating my inner existential turmoil and pain into music.
