How is Copenhagen adapting to climate change? | BBC News

Over 300 climate adaptation projects have been created in Denmark's capital to protect the city from floods and extreme weather.

In 2011, Copenhagen was hit by a major flood, leaving the capital knee-deep in water and causing widespread damage.

The projects include underground tunnels, to carry away rainfall, as well as the creation of new green spaces.

For anyone who isn't an expert in geography like vince, Copenhagen is the capital city of a country called Denmark.

More governments should take note of this: “It’s very expensive to protect a city but it’s even more expensive not to.”

Well done Copenhagen, and well done BBC. There are times when I think the BBC has lost its way entirely, but stories like this show that they still know how to report the news properly.

Water may be a Universal right, but 8.1 billion of us is a Universal wrong.

You can see m y home between 2:08 and 2:26. At 2:11 you can see a red building with round windows behind the lady. That is where I live. My flat is at the top.

"like a man-made river" - so you mean a drain then? Pretty sure it's a drain.

opinion: stone heating with hot water heats the house very well. Copper and metal heating will be used for something else and replaced by stone pipes.

Yes, remember 2011 - in Denmark there is a lot that are based in the basements of a building. And those shops were flooded. And I had throw must of the stuff that I had stored in the basement of my appartement. Fun fact: the park that is converted into a reservoir is quite close to the Carlsberg Brewery 😉

Does Britain have infrastructure plans to deal with alternating increased rainfall and periods of drought in hotter summers?

Last year, I watched water pouring down the stairwell to Belsize Park underground station on the Northern line of London's tube train system; one of many affected by flash floods that day, but now an annual event.

I wonder why they're not capturing it for processing and then drinking water.

This might be a bit random, but I have been wondering for some time what impact Russias war have on CO2 emissions. They certainly burn a lot of gasoline / diesel fuel, and if I remember correctly explosives burn O2 and contribute with CO2. I better check up on that actually. Greetings from Denmark
