RadioMaster TX16S vs Spektrum DX6/7/8/9... No Brainer?!?

AS DISPUTED IN THE COMMENTS, This video is a comparison based solely on price, and in Spektrum’s Lineup, The DX6 is most comprable with the TX16s According to Price. Yes, obviously the 16 channel model blows the 6 channel out of the water, and it’s even $100 cheaper! I am just trying to show the benefits of breaking away from a name brand ecosystem, but also what you may be leaving behind. Thanks for watching!

The Spektrum has two external antennas and only one is used to transmit on. The second antenna which is in the handle is used for telemetry receive. The TX16S has the same set up but the receive antenna is inside the transmitter housing. Both transmitters come stock with the same output power as specified by the FCC for US transmitters. The only way to increase transmit range is to modify the transmit antenna to focus the energy more line of site to the aircraft. Most transmit antennas are omni directional meaning there is no concentration of radio signal in any direction. There are aftermarket antennas that will make the signal more directional. Much of the effective transmit range depends on receiver design and receive antenna design and placement in the aircraft.

I own both Spectrum and Radio Master. Both are great radios. I moved off Futaba after 30 years. I wrote letters to them and felt stupid for sticking with them for so long. With express LRS and telemetry Being standard now. I think Radiomaster is the clear winner. If you want an easy-to-use out-of-the-box solution and just want some fun, Spektrum is a great choice. I own Spektrum for one simple reason the Wireless Trainer. You can use it with a radio master. Nothing extra. Some people are sticking GPS and Bluetooth into the Radio Master.

Love the fact you can order upgrades for your TX like carbon covers light up cnc gimbals

You can adjust the Dx6 tension by removing the rubber sides and adjusting the screws

I started in 2016 with a DX6 G2, sent it back after dropping it in a pond retrieving my float plane, told them it was my fault, all it needed was a soundboard, all i paid was the $32 for 2 way shipping, got a DX8 because i grew into more planes with more channels, now im into the IX14, I for 1 have looked and considered other radios especially for getting more at a better price. However the customer support and the wireless updating with new Spektrum radios has me, maybe because i learned on 1 and now know their setups, but in my opinion, they are extremely easy for 1st time radio user's and they have options you'll grow into. I have nothing against other radios, just for me i prefer Spektrum, another reason, i can buy a new toy like an EFLITE BNF and it binds with telemetry without effort, again i think it has to do with individuals but once you get into their new radios they've made it easy to learn their functions and the simulator dongle is a huge plus, however I've never used a simulator but i plan on getting 1 for 3d heli practice, RC is addictive, you've been warned

Started 35 years ago with Futaba and Airtronics radios, both excellent systems. Tried Hitech and it was unreliable, but I never really knew why. Then there was the protocol changes so I went with Spektrum, which seemed to work great at first with their 4 channel Rx, but the Spektrum AR631 that comes in many BNF planes went "brain dead" on me twice, one of those was on landing and I lost the plane. The Spektrum AR631 would even do weird things on range tests, like suddenly drop to 30 db or worse, then recover. I've never seen anything like it on the Radiomaster TX16S MkII. I ditched all my Spektrum gear... life is too short for that frustration. I use Lemon and Radiomaster Rx now. Excellent gear and save some $$$ too!

You are reviewing with the cheaper model radiomaster, lol . I personally use the radiomaster 16s Max with the 4 in 1 and is by far the best radio ive ever used. It took me a short while to get past the edgetx operating system, but after that, you skyrocket

Think carefully about what you need. I came back to rc after a break of almost 10 years. Watched some videos, lots of videos, decided I needed to upgrade my perfectly functioning Spektrum DX8 with a TX16S.
Big mistake.
The Spektrum did everything I needed, and need now, but without the huge learning curve, the 'Why wont it arm?' and the 'Did I miss something critical in the setup?' anxiety.

It's the 80/20 rule, 80% of the people only use 20% of the functions of any given piece of technology. I don't need, or want, most of the stuff that the TX16S does. What I need can be done in the Spectrum or the flight controller, mixes, flaperons/spoilerons etc, all simple in the Spektrum.
Not hard in the TX16S either, but I already had it and didn't need to upgrade to a lower quality tx, all whistles and bells that I'll never toot or ring.

Too late, sold the Spektrum too cheap, bought the TX16S. Gradually getting to grips with it but wasted a lot of time when I could have been flying and a bit of money that could have bought another plane.

good review, it is your money you buy what ever you want, Spektrum radios should support opentx .

I own an old DSMX Spektrum DX6i and a Radiomaster Zorro. I have one UMX plane - a UMX Sport Cub S 2 - that the flight modes (AS3X and SAFE) won't work correctly with either radio, but do work correctly with a DX7 black. I contacted Horizon Hobby and they said they were having the same problem with their old DX6i and DX8i they use for testing with that aircraft as well. I am sure 99% of aircraft receivers will work ok on a 4-in-1 module but there seems to be the odd one that won't.

Spektrum is done with their overpriced radios. ELRS and EdgeTX/OpenTX made the hobby much more affordable.

I was told this in one of my videos and it kinda embarrassed me but I’m gonna say it to you. Go back and watch your videos and count how many times you say Ummmm. It’s very hard to stop but was happy someone told me

Thank you for this video - very informative and informational given the video length; not bothered by the rambling at all. Subscribed!*

Hey! Thinking in the HorizonHobby e-flite and hobbyzone foam planes, that uses Spektrum receivers and ESC, do you know if SAFE Select and the telemetry from Spektrum ESC's will work with RadioMaster TX16s ?

You should discuss battery requirements.
My D6 runs on 4xAA batteries. What about Radio Master?

Good video!

When you talk about the 2 extra trims top center on the TX16 and Spektrum all the way to DX9 doesnt, thats incorrect. You have 2 assignable trims at the top to the left and right of the "DX9 label"
