it’s crazy that top 6 could be considered a good season for United this season, speaking to the state of United and the quality of the teams around them

Liverpool / City you expect to have 1st and 2nd nailed down with Spurs being the outside shout
Chelsea will their flaws still expect to have top 4 secured especially if they bring in top players
Arsenal might finally get to see the benefits of Arteta’s project
and Newcastle had an unbelievable second half to the season and with some new additions could possibly top United

As a Chelsea fan, as much as I’d love to have Ronaldo I don’t think he’d be very good. Chelsea have had some incredible defensive performances against the big teams under Tuchel but if we had Ronaldo, those performances would never happen.

This is not the 2000s, Man U vs Arsenal. We've got 6 - 7 teams now. Man C. Man U. Chelsea. Liverpool. Arsenal. Spurs and Newcastle soon. 1 can win the league. 4 CL and 3 will miss out on CL. The margins are fine now. You can spend 300m and still not finish top 4.

What if Bayern will only sell Lewandowski to Barca if they can get Ronaldo, and Barca will only want/need to sell De Jong if they have to raise funds to get Lewandowski, then United have to let Ronaldo go so they can get Ten Hag his top choice midfielder?
I don't think that was really part of the planned rebuild by United but it ought to have been anticipated. If it hasn't then surely that's evidence of a persisting blinkered mentality by this "new" recruitment team at Old Trafford.
