Both are viable options. The first is good for when you don’t have a reference and want to naturally discover a shape. The second is better when you have a reference.

I think the general rule to all these videos is:

- N00bs do everything by hand. By hand is a valid technique, but not always necessary.
- Pros do things using modifiers. Modifiers are nondestructive and have a LOT more control over the settings, but you really need to know the recipes for using them for specific tasks.

For this I've done it both ways, but frankly it's much better to do your profile in Illustrator (especially if you are working off a reference), import it to Blender, then use the screw (revolve) modifier on the profile curve. There are just SO many more tools in Illustrator to create and modify vector curves.

Pros get very, VERY good at figuring out which software, or which plugins, are best for any given job. They're all under very tight deadlines. Hobbyists are well advised to learn modifiers, but they don't NEED the shortest path from A to B.

Am I the only one who is more comfortable in the 1st technique? I mean come on they took almost the same time and energy for a perfect model.

You can't slow down these shorts, so as a noob it is very frustrating not to understand what is going on.
