Ans: The conservation of mechanical energy means that the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy remains constant or the loss in potential energy is equal to the gain in potential energy.
For example, When a ball is present at a certain height above the ground it possesses potential energy. As it falls down, its potential energy gradually converts to kinetic energy.
