MOST TENSE EPISODE YET! Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 5 Recap, Analysis and Review

In Attack on Titan season 4 episode 5, episode 64 of the AoT anime series, we saw some of the tensest anime in recent years, as Eren Jaeger (Yaeger) and Reiner Braun discussed a lot of things while Willie Tybur (Tybar) revealed the history of King Fritz and the titans in the wall on Paradis Island to an audience including Marleyans, Eldians, and characters from other countries like Kiyomi Azumabito. As Willie gave his speech, a declaration of war (Declaration of War also being the name of this Attack on Titan episode) against Eren Jaeger, who he believes may trigger the terrifying rumbling - when the founding titan's power is used to free the millions of titans in the walls and destroy the world - Falco Grice, Eren and Reiner have an intense conversation, Pieck and Galliard are trapped by a mysterious bearded soldier, and captain Magath does his best to prevent disaster. But, nothing seems to be able to stop Eren from moving forward, and we see the first appearance of the attack titan in this final season of the AoT anime! In this review of Attack on Titan s4 ep5 video I recap the episode (with no manga spoilers) and give an initial analysis and first impressions. This was definitely one of the most suspenseful and intense episodes of Attack on Titan so far, and I'd love to know what your reaction to it was in the comments!

This anime always surprises me and my first thoughts are mostly always wrong. I remember thinking mikasa broke erens 3d maneuver gear in training because she didn’t want him dying in the survey corps, but it was the drill sergeant the whole time. Now good guy Eren is literally playing the warrior roles of Reiner who he hated the most. Its only after rewatching and getting clues from teasers at the end of episodes. I swear this anime is only going to shock us more.

I remember reading this years ago and my first impression of Eren was sorta of an enigma an emotionless antihero. After rereading chapters leading up to this I realized just how exhausted this man is he is contemplating whether or not to attack liberio which is why he wanted to talk to Reiner in the first place just as Reiner, I think Eren has a flicker of resolve left and what shocked me the most was just how far removed they were compared to the last time they spoke. Eren a character who constantly dehumanizes anyone who he disagreed with now sees the humanity of his enemies. Reiner who’s biggest character flaw is running away from the reality of his sins now is face to face with the embodiment of his sins. Such a great moment and I can’t wait for the rest of the season these two are so similar just on different sides of the ocean.

Love the video. What did you think of the frame of the rumbling they showed? I thought it looked really good personally (obviously animating/using CGI for the Titans actually moving in the future will be a much harder challenge)

The little shot of Eren visually responding when Willy said “because I was born into this world” was a nice touch.

Do you think the scene of Willy and Magath talking in the car about the imminent attack by Eren, will be in the next episode?

This is some questions that I have. Any theories on why Willy seems so sure that Eren is a threat? I can understand that he felt safe with Karl Fritz renouncation of war. And now that the founder has passed hands their is the threat that the rumbling could happen. But how can he so strongly say the words 'Eren will do it', instead of 'their is the possibility.' Is he exaggerating or even lying for the purpose of diplomacy? Does the fact that Eren inherits the Warhammer someone give the current holder some sort of precognition? Did someone like Zeke give him misinformation?
