Two Engineers stuck Over BURNING Wind Turbine - True Story

On that fateful day, a team of four men, led by 21-year-old Arjun Cortis and 19-year-old Dan Coose, were assigned routine maintenance on 12 wind turbines at the Delta Winds wind farm in Utkinsplat, Netherlands. Little did they know, they were about to face a ticking time bomb..

As the team progressed through their maintenance routine, a short circuit triggered a devastating fire. The crew, realizing the danger, made a dash for the main exit, but Arjun and Dan were left trapped on the other side with no means of escape.

Authorities faced challenges in their rescue efforts, with witnesses reporting the intense flames and the height of the turbine. A large crane was brought in to assist, but time was not on their side.

Tragically, Arjun was seen jumping off the top of the mill, and Dan's body was later recovered. The Delta Wind company expressed its condolences, stating that the loss of the two colleagues was indescribable and heartbreaking.

An investigation revealed the fire resulted from a short circuit, and the company was not deemed criminally responsible. However, it exposed high maintenance costs and a lack of proper training. The incident led to a Dutch political inquiry in 2014, but substantial changes were elusive.

In closing, we remember and pay our respects to Arjun and Dan, victims of the Oldkinshplat wind turbine disaster. This avoidable tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of updating and replacing outdated turbines to ensure the safety of those who work tirelessly above the ground.

Whether or not the fault inside the machinery was not the company’s responsibility, the company should at the very least have made a settlement to the men’s families. It wouldn’t bring their loved ones back but it would have shown some kind of respect for those poor men. Imagine having to make that choice - to jump or be set on fire. I will think about this for a long time.

No safety measures in place. The company should be sued into extinction.

How could the other 2 engineers leave these young men, leave them others behind. How absolutely tragic 💔
This could’ve been prevented!

Why could a helicopter not have saved them, people say the heat, but a ladder from helicopter could be Lowered down so they could grab on to it and be Lowered down to ground, this seems such a waste of two young lifes, the company must have helicopters or local police or army base nearby surely in an emergency?

This is why I've always said, anyone that works that high, needs a parachute. Both would most likely be alive today if they were able to parachute off

This is one of those moments when I get to appreciate the vigor and persistence of American Lawyers. Call them what you may want but an American lawyer shall fight tooth and nail where there is such big money.

If they say, it was not the wind turbine company’s fault, he would sue the electric company for the short circuit and if they can’t sue the electric company, they will sue the wind turbine company for lack of safety measures and if the ladder was left in the service car like I have read in some comments, he will sue for the hight of that ladder, how the company expected the workers to carry it with them while going up there, why the company doesn’t have parachutes used given the hight of the Turbine.
An American lawyer will win for the victim’s family if not a penny atleast an acknowledgement that the Company messed up on the safety measures.

Should be a requirement to wear equipment for basejumping in the case of emergency

I can't ses how the wind turbine one is legitimate? They have several safety precautions for turbine engineers for them to rappel off the turbine in such an event? Anyone on thread saying about parachutes yes, it would seem like a straightforward option except, parachutes can get caught in updrafts especially upon deployment. This would then risk sending them into the blades of the wind turbine which would be why they aren't used.
