I remember a case in point of the importance of Units. A new passenger plane was designed and built. The old specification dictated that fuel loaded should be measured in pounds, the new one in kilograms. So when the gas man turned up, instead of putting 15, 000kg of fuel into the aircraft tanks he put in 15, 000 Ib.
The plane ran out of fuel mid - Ocean.
