Yes, that has happened to me - my old video continues to be preferred over my new video that’s nearly identical for title and description.

I always make videos about certain idea and fill my description with tags and make sure to put the best title but YouTube doesn't even bother recommending it, on the other hand smaller channels make the same idea with no tags at all and the description is so empty and no effort in the title but the video gets recommended to literally everyone

I am a new youtuber, I have no idea why I didn't start a channel before but here I am, 6 months later with my first goal achieved 4k hours watch time, still lacking 300 hundred subscribers to get the 1k to be able to monetize but not giving up, when i feel discourage I remember when I had only one hour of watch time and one follower (My Mom) lol. I owe you guys a lot because it wasn't until I watch your channel that I understood that I wasn't doing enough for my channel and even though is not the best it has improved a lot. God bless you guys, your content is excellent. Once I hit 1k subscribers Ill be back here letting you know.

You have to keep in mind, in the examples you give you’re competing with yourself and videos you already made, content gaps are more intended for people who want to branch out or expand on a topic.

I used to have a tutorial channel right before this one, and something I noticed is if things were too similar in how you thumbnailed/titled your videos, none of your current audience will want to rewatch the video or they’ll feel like they already understand the topic. This lowers your watch time/click through rate, nerfing the video from the start, making youtube not want to recommend it to new people past the first few days.

Also if you already have a video addressing THE EXACT SAME search term, and you’re not giving something of incredibly higher value, you have already hit the max of that market. I was at the top of my previous niche, and once I got there I discovered, to a certain extent just how small it was, and how impossible it was to expand because I’m not getting new people. Everyone who followed the topic I covered had heard of me and already decided if they liked me or not. I would also assume if you have two videos titled the same, youtube would likely recommend it to people who saw the first one, which would increase the CTR/watch time issue since those people probably don’t want to see a really similar video with just tiny updates mixed in.

Search is a useful tool to get new people, so of course if you’re competing against yourself, people are just going to pick the OG because adding (+current year) in a lot of changes is not a clickable title and it brings in to question whether or not that info is already outdatted unless it’s brand new. Most people don’t think about whether or not something is outdated unless you bring it up or there is a big change in quality. In July of 2022, I don’t want to click on a video from January telling me what 2022 is going to be like. At that point, I know more than the video. Versus something like (These Changes to Youtube Shorts are MIND BLOWING) or (know these YOUTUBE SHORT tips or get no views).

Not sure if that can help anyone but I thought I would share, targeting search has changed a lot in the past 5 years, and my bet is over the long term, you’re better off titling for CTR and just using terms a lot in your description/the actual video, than trying to get search unless you have a product or do tutorials.

I doubt the search volume is accurate. Per vidIQ, for one search term, they're showing 187, 000 with Very Low competition. However, for the same search term, Tubebuddy shows 300 and High competition! Why the HUGE discrepancy? It's not even close. And I've seen the same for other search terms.

The tool is doing well for me too (small creator). I recently did a video that they recommended and it quickly picked up. I'm going to try another one this week to see what happens.

You can only search 6 different countries, so most people cant use it for their audience yet.

It's so weird how my other channel can't get any views or even comment. The comments will just be deleted.

I have a doubt..
I'm going to start a channel but to prevent it from getting hacked in future I planned to create a Brand account channel & adsense account with one of my gmails and all social media handles (other than YT) of tht channel on a separate gmail.
& In future I may launch shorts channel on another gmail.

My doubt is
all these planning is good ?
or I just over thinking, & these all should be better to create on a same gmail.

Virtually none of the terms listed are in relation to my channel. Very strange how many different topics my viewers are interested in that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

I just had the "older video" phenomenon hit me over this weekend.
YouTube suggested a video on a topic I was interested in. It showed as 2 years old, but I clicked on the thumbnail anyway. The video was interesting and still relevant, so I clicked on the channel name. I clicked on the Videos tab. There, second in line, was the video title that I had just watched. My first thought was, "Wow, they haven't posted anything in 2 years."

Then I looked at the publish date. It was "2 days ago". Closer inspection showed the the title was slightly different, as was the thumbnail. I scrolled down the page, and, sure enough, there was virtually the same series of videos from 2 years ago.

I sampled the new video. It seems to be the same script, but with better background and a little better sound. I haven't sampled the other videos yet, so some may have more updated material.

Bottom line: YouTube recommended the older of two similar videos on the same channel. Not sure what the lesson is here.

Hi Rob, ,
Thank you for sharing this video. As always lot of information. I just add Vidiq to my laptop. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Labor Day. 😊 👍

Thank you for going in depth about this new feature! I've used it a bit to see what my subscribers have been searching for, so I can think through new locations to visit (I do POV walks), but I wasn't necessarily sure how to get the best use out of it. And honestly, never even knew it linked out to show the search volume for the past year. I always learn something new from this channel, so thank you!

While watching this video I had a thought. When YouTube labels something as a content gap, it may be in part about user behavior. Like not getting more than 30 seconds through multiple videos, clicking on to a similar video frequently, etc. things that indicate the user is looking for something and not finding it. Like in the example of how to change a channel name. maybe users are not looking for what buttons to click so much as they are looking for guidance on how not to negatively impact their channel by changing the name, how to promote the name change, how to find the perfect channel name, etc.

No to mention that you need a fortune teller cristal ball to guess the proper terms to search, it somehow implies that you already know them, and if you do, then you don't need the tool
