We are spineless in the West. We really are. I liked Jonathan Fink's analogy that we are governed by a management class of politician now, with no experience of a war of national survival (namely, WWII vets who became politicians in the past) and only focused on the next round of the 4 year election cycle and allowing corporate greed to undermine our national and alliance's security. We really need a leader to step up!

Realist Brit here. I believe it was Stalin who said it doesn't matter who you vote for, what matters is who counts the votes. He should know. And Putin is his follower, so you can assume that anywhere where Russia is at all involved in elections there will be vote rigging. And Putin's buddy Trump also tried it. I think Georgia is in a no-win scenario. They are geographically too far from the West and too small to fight for itself if they push back against Russia. Sadly, it may not be the right time for Georgia's complete break from the Russian sphere, especially while Putin is in power.

reg. Georgia: one should not forget that their most famous son was a guy by the name of Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, better known by his adopted name Stalin. The Soviet era wasn't all gloom for everybody, especially along the pretty side of the Soviet Black Sea coast, where the resorts were, it was a good time, certainly in memory. In places like Sochi (Russia) a lot of people struggled a lot when the Union collapsed. While I do the think the majority of the people in Georgia are done with Russia, the portion of the population that isn't is certainly substantially larger than in Ukraine. While Georgia was to some degree pampered in Soviet times, Ukrainians were starved and oppressed, that shows in the attitude of people.

At least in Bulgaria we stopped the two main pro-Putin parties again yesterday (seven parliamentary elections in 3 years, it's a real deadlock here) - less than 25% of the votes combined. NATO does not need another Hungary, and we will not become one despite the unfortunate strong Russian influence in our country.
