Saladin isn’t generalising, but demonstrating how the right decisions are hard to find and even harder to walk.

In this case, extracting data through Psion psionic intervention, isn’t as bad as Crow makes it out to be. He has sympathy for monsters who slaughtered our species for no good reason, partially because of Savathun’s tampering with Crow’s mind in the last season.

May I add that the Hive are fairly evil, eradicated countless of worlds and almost erased us. They deserve no pity.

I wonder what Luzaku would think of this dilemma. Sure she's not exactly affiliated with the Vanguard but she did choose break away from the Sword Logic and the Lucent Brood that still performed it.

about that part of Saladin's Past, Lore-wise for you to read more online beyond just from that, admittingly impressive made short origins type cutscene.

by the way, a bit if a retcon too perhaps. as in Lore Saladin is supposed to be merciful much in the end for any of our constantly gathered new Human faces when coming back from outside the Last City.

and yes. the Choice of Mercy is Good-

It wasn't really generalizing. Saladin is essentially making a parallel to the Hive by telling this story. He catches the petty thief and, out of the goodness of his heart, chooses to spare her, offering spiritual protection in return. However, as the girl knew only the honor of bandits and thievery, while the years pass and she rises to power, she does not change. The village that commissioned Saladin to find her is now at her mercy, and when they were no longer deserving of it, they were massacred. Saladin was heartbroken to see the crest of the Iron Lords, a crest that represents the very first true Guardians, adorning a Lightless Warlord.

He tells this story because Crow believes (at this point) that he *is* Uldren. When he received his memories from Savathûn, it wasn't just the trauma of reliving the memories of Uldren starting at the Taken War that he had to wrest with, it was the epiphany that the Guardians that bruised or straight up killed him all made sense. From the outset, Uldren was a *bad dude.* And Crow feels that if he could change, so could the Hive. The problem is that the Hive _can_ change, but so far they've chosen not to. Even Savathûn ran in opposition to the Vanguard, choosing to seal the Traveler away, ensuring it can never be destroyed, at the cost of dooming the physical universe of course. Saladin is trying to get Crow to see that; that if he "spared" these Lightbearer Hive, they'd only come back to unleash greater horrors later on. Mercy to an enemy cannot come at the cost of their victims. If the Hive are allowed to be left to their own devices, they will destroy us. And no amount of hoping that they'll change will undo the graves that will be filled for that.

? it's not generalizing, it's a basic point Saladin made

yes, having mercy for the enemy is morally correct--but if the enemy is dangerous, and will hurt the innocent, you can't give them mercy. you're willingly putting innocent lives at risk if you have mercy for dangerous people.

Saladin is simply saying that you cannot take that risk. If you are a warrior, and the enemy is dangerous, you have to consider putting them down if you KNOW that they, if they were to continue, would put innocent lives in danger.

generalizing is also called the norm. we don't set standards and rules for the exception.

Lessons in mercy are not always right or wrong.

I get you “generalization” point, but 38 people died because HE left one alive. That’s gonna stick pretty hard in your head

I don’t think she knows destiny’s lord haha understandable. Crow ultimately kills the psion and that causes lord Saladin to forfeit his free life for crow’s. He now has to serve on the war council of another alien race. He did this to spare crow’s life, he showed bravery at the sight of death. He’s an honorable character with a very dark and stressful past. “Generalizing” is something he didn’t do the first time he met that young thief. And, in this case, it ended up causing a lot of problems. He spared one life and many many more innocent lives were lost as a result. Of course he will blame himself. He explains how generalizing is intact the right thing to do in times like that. Crow isn’t generalizing and it has proven time and time again to be the wrong choice. Crow is figuring things out though. Saladin explains how the correct path isn’t always easy to find, but once you do the only question that remains is if you’re strong enough to walk it. This was for crow specifically, because of his troubled mind in the past and present. With everything headed their way right now, he needs to get his head in the right state if he stands a chance against the witness and its forces. If this interaction didn’t happen, he would probably get corrupted again and possible make us lose. Just being honest.

(02:16) No, Syrena. that is as usual Not the Full Lore tellings about these kinds of characters.

Eugh. the Choices for *[Darkness]. (**04:34**).*

Still, Mercy would be. and teaching for the [Light]'s.

something....Unfortunately Saladin, to non offense, didn't seem to have done the last step. after rescuing that mortal girl.
