Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary. An Apple Studios production in conjunction with Scott Free Productions, “Napoleon” is produced by Scott, Kevin Walsh, Mark Huffam and Phoenix, with Michael Pruss and Aidan Elliott serving as executive producers.

You it kinda makes it feel less impressive when the young hero of Toulon is very clearly some dude in his 50s.

Very disappointed by how poorly Joaquine Phoenix played Napoleon... He was much better portrayed in Waterloo from 1970

This napoleon seems like a really cool and talented guy. I bet the French Republic’s government will not regret giving him his own army.

The biggest crime was them marketing this as some documentary style movie to portray Napoleon and his exploits, but they hardly got anything correct. Waterloo (1970) did a MUCH better job, this was embarrassing and should’ve just been a fictional story.

Wasn’t he promoted to Brigadier General before Toulon?? By Egypt he was leading the Army, he had already fought his campaign in Northern Italy. How inaccurate was this movie?

I believe he was promoted to Major during the Toulon siege by Dugommier when he took over the operation

He was made a major before the end of Toulon. And became a brigadier until the uprising in Paris getting becoming a Divisional Commander and was subsequently awarded the Army of Italy which he led gloriously against the Austrians.

You cannot do entire film on Napoleon bonaparte's life to do a character of such magnitude Justice we were committed to doing a miniseries or do a film based around his early life or later in his life. I would have just did a film on his early life through his Italian campaign his best campaign

If only Napoleon had been as great as Washington. His very name may have become a synonym for President used across the world like "Caesar" for emperor.
