He's quite significant in the history of Portuguese literature, but I'm not sure anyone in 2021 who is neither Portuguese nor particularly interested in poetry from the early 1900's should feel badly about not being familiar with him. Certainly GET familiar if you are motivated to, but cut yourself some slack :). Very interesting theme, though, even if you don't know Pessoa's work.
