The wings need to flex on the upstroke and stiffen on the down stroke, otherwise lift will be negated.

University of Toronto made and flew one *exactly* 9 years ago, sustained speed and altitude for 19.3 seconds. There's a video on youtube.

Great attempt at what has to be one of the most difficult types of aircraft to design and build. And that launch was the best, haha.

It also includes automatic stabilization for a lot of standardized hardware configurations, so you are less likely to crash it into a wall while you're still trying to learn how to control it.

Its never going to fly with rigid wings. Flapping speed needs to be much faster too.

Isn't the function of a Ornithopter to hover or at least 'float like a butterfly' as awkward but cool that would be!



Maybe starting with a paper airplane/hang-glider frame and giving it some symmetrical winged trust!
