The Blue Lagoon is a bay formed by the Maltese islands of Comino and Cominotto and some rocks. These islands lie between the main island of Malta and its neighboring island of Gozo . Every year around 20,000 tourists visit the lagoon, which is one of the main tourist attractions of the archipelago. In summer, small ferries, ships and express boats run regularly to this popular bathing spot.

Parts of the Blue Lagoon were designated an Area of Ecological Importance by national authorities in 2002. These are areas of special ecological importance in relation to the species living there and their habitats .

The bay has been the setting for several movies, for example Madonna's diving scenes in Swept Away and scenes from Helen of Troy were filmed there.
