Humans going to planet Mars and the first human mission to Mars will be a very important step and event in human history.
That said, Elon Musk is not ready or prepared to participate in the human mission to Mars, which should be very well planned and prepared through global cooperation, with a crew of very were well trained humans who will land on Mars, stay there for a limited time, and return safely to Earth.
Musk can help in building the spaceship that will carry humans to Mars, if he acts responsibly and appropriately.
For example, trying to send many unprepared people to Mars by 2050 is unrealistic and would end in tragedy. At this time very few humans are ready or qualified to go to Mars. The human mission to Mars is not and should not be a "suicide mission".
