You make perfectly sense, 3T. I'm a poor old man and I love watches. My little collection is mainly cheap watches, but today I bought a vintage 36 mm Rolex Datejust with silver linen dial, after saving for a long time. It's been a great day!

Inherited my grandfather's Sekio 5 after he passed away in 1987. Some of the gold plating is coming off and the crystal has scratches. The value to me is PRICELESS (-:

Rule of eBay priceing. People can ask any price they want, it’s what they sell for that matters

Yeah, once in a while I get a watch. New. At the full retail price. From an AD. Usually around 1500 dollars, or slightly higher. And the very moment I pay for it, the value drops some 50%, or even more. Totally worth it. Every single time. I want to be the first one to scratch it. Adding a dent. Breaking it in. That’s what you pay for, as well as supporting the brand in question and the AD. It’s all good.

For what these examples are worth (and others), It may be more fulfilling to give them away. The gift will last forever and your encumbrance will lessen.

I work in a store that buys and sells items (including watches). I have this discussion (argument) with customers daily, it's an absolute nightmare!

I buy what I like and would never, ever think of selling any of them. I don't care if my choice is not everyone's choice, I buy them for me no one else.

Seems stupid to even ask for an appraisal when he already knows how much he wants and then get offended when his unrealistic expectations aren’t met.

Excellent video Jory! Anyone not into watches for the love of watches is not a collector, they are speculators who will soon enough have a reality check...

Great topic & enjoyed the vid 👍
Over the past decade I've probably sold 300 watches on eBay; of which I only profited from 11. Those were 10-day auctions. I want my watches sold quick so I generally list as Buy it Now/Make Offer. Before posting, I find the lowest active listing of the same watch in similar condition, then the ones recently sold, usually pricing my piece 5%-20% less than the lowest active listing.
I recently did that with a Seiko SRP775J1 Turtle I bought new 2 years ago & wore only 3 times. It sold within 20 minutes of being listed.

It just amazes me that people have such completely distorted ideas of their what their watches are worth. The purpose of buying a watch is enjoyment. Pure and simple. Excellent video as usual.

So true! Buy em because you love them! And if you decide to flip a watch have realistic expectations

That green 'Alpinist' is one of the prettiest watches I have and I completely share your sentiment of it being 'one watch collection' type of a watch—I'd give up some much more expensive watches I have before I part with it, in fact, I will probably never sell it. That being said, if I lost it, would I pay more than $500 for a new one? Not a chance... I bought this one barely used for $420 and I thought I was overpaying it, but it was so damn gorgeus... People trying to sell it for $700-$800-$1k are simply delusional, but delusion is quite common in this hobby—paying $30-$40k for a 'Daytona' is even more insane, yet people do it all the time...

Really well said, I agree. It’s crazy to me how much emphasis is put on resale value when talking watches. Why on earth would I care about resale value when buying a watch? It’s as if people are no longer buying watches for themselves, but instead for whoever they’re going to sell it to. They choose based on what someone else will like, rather than what they will like. Seems crazy to me. Thanks for making the video!

I'm just glad you made this episode, explain it crystal clear, and hope this person get the "message"

If the person thinks that the Seiko's are worth 700$, then i have a couple of Seiko's to sell him for 650$.

Check sold items on Ebay... theres your answer... for my SARB033 I can likely get $600 but 1) I baby it and 2) I immediately removed the stock bracelet before wearing it... for a trade in you cant expect more than $300-$400 tops...

One of the best, truly honest watch videos I’ve seen.

The Sarb 033 and 035 have appreciated quite a bit. I see them going for around 400-450. Which is great compared to the original msrp.

The Seiko Alpinist is on my top three starters. I love that watch and I cant imagine myself buying it to then sell it.
