At the very beggining, John Lennon made a band called the Quarrymen, in 1957
July 6th 1957, Paul McCartney met John Lennon, few days later, Paul joined the band
February 1958, George Harrison joined the band
May 1960, The Quarrymen (John, Paul and George) became the Silver Beetles, and Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best joined the band

Their name:
It's Stuart Sutcliffe who suggested the name Beatals as a tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

They didn't have the success we know when they released Love me Do, they went n°17, in fact, their first n°1 hit was From Me To You (which reached N°1 during 7 weeks)

They received 8 competitive Grammy Awards, out of 25 nominations

The real Beatles break-up actually happenned in late 69 when John announced that he left the band in private, but Paul McCartney make it public in May 1970

And yeah they opened the mind for some things, but in which song they are supporting the gay rights, I'm not sure?
