Top 10 Weirdest Tech Choices of 2022 【Part 2】

Yu-Gi-Oh has come a long way since Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, and currently features over 10,000 different cards.

With such a wide array of choices available, duelists have discovered hundreds of different wild and wacky tech options that can be used to strengthen certain strategies, or be used to counter others.

So let’s look at the strangest tech choices of the past year, if they’re any good and why they managed to see any amount of play in the first place.

Was honestly expecting Mushroom Man #2 on this list after it saw play to turn off Kashtira effects in the OCG

Back in the day, when the height of Absolute Zero's dominance in HERO decks, King of the Swap was actively ran as the go to for extra material for summoning Absolute Zero. Seeing it back on top for Tear really should not have been surprising for anyone. A Fusion based deck, using a tech that can be pitched for a Poly, that also happened to be an Aqua Monster seems like a no brainer

The Ra's Disciple lock is so toxic, I've lost a few times to it and it boiled down to losing the game because of the pre-match dice roll, every single time. I don't mind losing a game, but not being able to play at all because I went second is objectively a design mistake and a genuine issue for the health of the game imo.

Mushroom man 2 was used as a tech against kashtira in the ocg and it got bought out a few months ago.

If I were to improve Crystal Beast Emerald Toroise, I’d add on the effects…
_At the end of every turn, you gain LP equal to the combined DEF of all monsters on the field in Defense position while this card is face-up on the field. Once per turn (quick effect), if you control no “Crystal Beast” monsters on the field you can special summon this monster from your spell/trap zone._

There was a card you did not mention at all. It's Mushroom Man #2. It's been seeing play as a side deck option for countering Kashtiras.

OCG had some really funny ones, like Mushroom Man #2 clogging up Kashtira fields, and Lady Labrynth equipping Metalmorph from the deck to out their Arrival Cyberse Ignister.
Metalmorph's continuous ATK boost also lead to some interesting rulings vs Avramax's activated ATK boost

Dunno why people weren't using King Of The Swamp before.
There's lots of fusion monsters usable with it.

King of the swamp always had the potential for good use. Kind of like pre-preparation of rites. The only issue both of those cards ran into was that they need specific named cards to work.

You know, this made me realise how full circle Yugioh has come. Back when I first got into the actual META, Lightsworn was stupidly powerful because of their ability to mill cards that had powerful grave effects, and now the top deck is another one that does (pretty much) the exact same. Just find that amusing

Top 10 stall cards.
Top 10 generic pendulum cards.
Top 10 special conditions in the games.

Also edge imp is like king of the swamp but for despia which saw a crazy amount of play in many despia decks

Seeing Ra's Disciple + Ido on ranked made Dark Hole a reasonable option as well. It's kinda wild how much a card's effectiveness changes over time
