As a retired airline pilot, I flew everything from the 727, S80, DC10, 757, 767, 777, and 787. The 757 was my favorite for just that reason, the power. This Finnish plane has Rolls Royce engines rated at 44, 000 lbs of thrust each, it was just like a thoroughbred horse, itching to run

So many comments discussing weight, fuel, headwind etc. The truth is that the short takeoff is standard for Finnish airlines because they are partially fuelled by Sisu.

Love the sound of the 757s. So distinct. And great performance too. I don't think any other jet airliner could pull that off.

Cool! I was a stress engineer on the 757 at Boeing many years ago. I have a real fondness for that aircraft. It's a great machine.

Phenomenal 757 performance. There no other like it, and sadly no true replacement. A legend!

The 757 is capable of very short takeoffs if the pilot goes to max power. It has (deliberately) very similar systems and power to the larger 767 with essentially the same wing, giving it far lighter wing loading than most airliners.

Also, from the sound of it, there was probably a pretty stiff headwind which can help reduce your takeoff roll quite a bit.

Us Flight Attendants referred to the Boeing 757 as the "Bullet" because of its ability to take off on such short runways and steep vertical climbs. I LOVED sitting in that back galley jumpseat!!! No turbulence needed for a crazy ride back there! Awesome plane!

It is so nice to read a comments section were the people posting are intelligent and informed. It restores my faith in public media. No trolls here. Nice. Cool video. Those fans sound like there sucking up all the o2 in a two mile radius.

I just checked on google earth, from start point to take off point, all wheels was in the air at 695 meter

The 757 is a fantastic aircraft.  Their is no airbus aircraft that even compares to it in performance and mission capability.  I have flown full 757s into Orange County California, and Jackson Wyoming both of which are very short.  JAC is also at 6400 feet above sea level. It can fly from Denver to Honolulu or Chicago to Indianapolis.  It Climbs like a homesick angel, cruises all day at M.82, and can land and stop on a slick runway on a dime with change left over. It handles well on one engine too.  I will miss flying the 757.  UAL Senior Capt.

This is how my airplane would takeoff if I lost weight

I love the sounds of airplane engines revving up before takeoff. Awesome!

I used to do this all the time with 757s doing maintenance test flights. When the airplane has 86, 000 lbs of thrust and the empty weight is 94, 000 lbs total weight with minimum fuel might be 120, 000 lbs takeoff's were VERY short.

Oh my, incredible lift. The 57 is easily the most amazing single aisle aircraft made with a beauty in the air of a graceful, athletic long-necked bird. I suppose Boeing looks at the 737-900 as taking the place of the 757, but I disagree, they should look at a 757 MAX with ceramics and new GE90 type power plants. The range on this puppy and comfort in flight are superior to the A320 and 737 families while using the same length runways

1993. I remember leaving Mirabel in a half-empty Transat AT 757 and the crazy angle of takeoff. I saw the guy in the seat across from me in total panic.

Out of all the planes I've been on I found the 757 pushed me inside the back of my seat the most during takeoffs. Love that plane!!

All you need is a strong headwind. Anyone who knows, an aeroplane takes off at a certain air speed not ground speed.
