Anyone who doesn't think that Viv was the top batter of the 70s wasn't around in the 70s.

The best batsman should be judged by his average and Viv Richard’s has the highest average.

Even Greg wont agree that he is rated above his compatriot Viv. Greg rates Viv as d best in his generation. Kalli, Amiss, Redpath, Boycott in but Clive Lloyd out? 😮

Not sure on the criteria used for the rankings: if one were to use pure match-winning ability, Viv would stand tall and we wouldn’t have 2nd or 3rd place. Greenidge, Fredricks, and Lloyd are also missing.

The top ten based on peak rating in the 1970s from the ICC test bat rankings are:
1) Viv Richards - 933
2) Graeme Pollock - 927
3) Doug Walters - 922
4) Sunil Gavaskar - 916
5) Greg Chappell - 883
6) Gundappa Viswanath - 871
7) Javed Miandad - 868
8) Alvin Kallicharran - 866
9) Glenn Turner - 845
10) Garry Sobers - 838

Note that some of these ratings are based on performances in the 1960s

What about the late great Roy Clifton Fredricks the prolific opening batsman who almost
single handidly destroyed the
fearsome Lilee and Thompson on their home ground in the 1975-76 series?

This is a very subjective list and opinion of one. It is not based on number of runs, or averages. Zaheer Abbas, Doug Walters, Clive Lloyd, Gordon Greenidge and Lawrence Rowe can be on the list, ahead of the 2 Ians.
