Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida and released worldwide for PlayStation 3 and Windows in August 2013, it replaced the failed 2010 version, with subsequent support for PlayStation 4, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Final Fantasy XIV is set in the fantasy region of Eorzea, five years after the devastating Seventh Umbral Calamity which ended the original version. In the Calamity, the elder primal Bahamut escaped from his prison, an ancient space station called Dalamud, unleashing an apocalypse across Eorzea. Through temporal magic, the player character of the original version escaped, reappearing at the start of A Realm Reborn. As Eorzea cements its recovery, the player must fend off a reignited invasion from the Garlean Empire.

Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG, featuring a persistent world where players can interact with each other and the environment. Players create and customize their characters for use in the game, including name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Unlike in the original release, players may only choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic as a starting class—Disciples of the Hand and Land are initially unavailable. Players must also select a game server for each character. While all supported languages are available on every server, data centers are located in specific regions (i.e., North America, Europe, Japan, and Oceania) to reduce latency between client and server, and players are advised to choose a server in their region. Regardless of server or language, players can use a large library of automatically translated game terms and general phrases, allowing players who speak different languages to communicate.

Thanks for this! Watching this as I download the trial version of the game. I come from DCUO and SWTOR. Tried Guild Wars 2, then saw a video talking about the best player count MMOs of 2024, saw this on the top of the list and the guy explained why it's so good. Sold me on it. haha. I think this has potential to be my new MMO home. I'm busy with work, but looking forward to trying this one.

I've tried getting into FF14 a few times now, but it's just not entertaining playing it solo. I've never been one for tab targeting either, so that makes it all the more tricky. With the upcomming expansion I'm tempted to do what people suggested and play through the base game like a single player story focused game. Then by the time I finish it I'll be used to the mechanics etc.

Great video! I've been trying out the trial version the past couple of weeks to determine if i want to start a subscription.

I've played a few of the larger MMOs; New World, ESO, WOW, DAOC, and even UO. The one thing that's really hard for me to get over is that 1 character can do everything.

Do I need to carry all the gear I keep outgrowing during leveling to eventually 'break down' via crafting, or should I just vendor it? And is it really worth it to vendor the low stuff?

the GCD in FFXIV is so long because the animations are so long. it gives more time for flashy attacks.
