You know what? This might not be the most popular opinion, but I disagree with the fact that Sam is a traitor.

Tommy and Paul knew the rules of the business. I understand that they could felt deceived by Don himself, but that doesn’t change the fact that, in the end, they quietly, without informing the boss, were robbing banks. Wasn't it true betrayal?

Sam never betrayed the family. He knew who raised him and who helped him achieve success in life. They guys were only hist close friend, Don Sallieri was for him like a father.

Don wasn’t such a bad person in the end. He took care of his people and rewarded them generously as long as they followed the rules. I believe that if the guys, especially Paul, had told him gently that they wanted to open the pizzeria, he would have definitely found a positive solution and supported his most loyal members of the Mafia.
