Sheldon's like my black lab. He liked to lay on my dad's chair. We eventually got tired of making him get off since he would keep jumping back up, so we just let him lay there. When my dad would be sitting in the chair, our dog would put his head on my dad's knee and just stare at him, trying to get him to leave since that was his spot. We know that that was the reason and not that he wanted petted because when my dad would get up to go the bathroom, our dog would instantly jump onto the chair and lay down.
