There is a total of 5 tier pieces which are helms, shoulders, chest, gauntlets and leggings with a tier sets bonus for 2 and 4 pieces.

Tokens

The first method is within the new raid sepulcher of the first ones. The bosses will be dropping gear tokens. There will be a total of 4 different type of tokens for specific classes.

• The first token is called Mystic for Druid/Hunter/Mage.
• Venerated is for Paladins/Priest/Shaman.
• Zenith is for Monk/Rogue/Warrior.
• Lastly, Dreadful for the Demon Hunter/Death Knight/Warlock.

The amount of tokens dropping from the raid will depend on the amount of players present.
For a mythic raid of 20 eligible players, a total of 2 tier tokens will drop per boss.

For scaling raids such as Normal and Heroic, 1 token will drop for 10 eligible players, while 30 eligible players would receive 3. These tokens can be traded BUT you need to have an equivalent or higher item level to trade tier pieces and the tokens.

Raid Drops

On the PTR you can acquire the tier sets from 5 of the raid bosses within the new raid. The bosses Principal Architect, Halondrus and Anduin will drop ilvl 239 gear on raid finder difficulty and ilvl 278 on mythic difficulty. Lords of Dread and Rygelon will drop 246 ilvl for LFR and 285 ilvl on mythic.

Great Vault

For Raids, Mythic Plus and PvP players, Tier Set items have a chance to be one of the rewards in the Great Vault. The item level however will not be the same as in the raid, and instead, it will work exactly like any other item in the vault. You can upgrade these pieces with valor points and conquest points.

Creation Catalyst

9.2 will see the introduction of a new system called the Creation Catalyst and this will allow you to craft tier pieces and currently will unlock on week 8 of the patch so there is some time gating of the system.

This system will also have Charges and will start at once per week and then over time reduces as the patch progresses moving towards a charge once a day. So in short the system will help you acquire missing tier sets and act as a catch up mechanic for new players.

To interact with the console, you will first need to get a gear piece and this must come from season 3 content such as Mythic+, Rated PVP or the new raid. If you input an ilvl 272 gear piece you will receive an ilvl 272 tier piece.
The upgraded piece will keep its tertiary stats, sockets and Mythic/PVP upgrade paths. The secondary stats are not randomly generated and have a fixed number.

To make a higher ilvl piece you will need to remake the piece with a higher base level item unless the gear is from PVP or Mythic+ with an upgrade path.

The 9.2 patch will see the introduction of a new currency called Cosmic Flux and this is required for upgrading gear into tier sets but is also used for crafting the new legendary rank as well. The Cosmic Flux amount for upgrading each piece will depend on the gear slot being upgraded.

• Bracers and Clock = 600 Flux
• Belt and Boots = 800 Flux
• Shoulders and Gloves = 1200 Flux
• Helm, Chest and Legs = 1500 Flux

To unlock the Creation Catalyst you will need to complete the Zereth Mortis Chapter “Forging a New Path” and then wait 8 weeks after the launch of the patch for the systems to be opened unless this time period is changed by Blizzard.

For some reason, the appearance of my tier piece is different. I used a pvp gear and converted it into tier set, however, the appearance is still the pvp gear.
