ASEAN, officially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is an economic union comprising 10 member states in Southeast Asia. Ten members are Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. With some of the fastest-growing economies in the world, ASEAN has broadened its objective beyond the economic and social spheres. The average economic growth of member states from 1989 to 2009 was between 3.8% and 7%, much higher than the average growth rate of the world. As of 1 July 2019, the population of the ASEAN was about 655 million people, which shares 8.5% of the world population. In 2021, the nominal GDP of ASEAN is estimated to reach $3.356 trillion with the GDP per capita being $4,849. The GDP by purchasing parity reaches $8.993 trillion and the GDP (PPP) stands at $13,475.

I hope one day, I can catch the train from a small station in Vietnam and travel to Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, ... without any barriers of customs, price, currency, .... like in Europe, where we can buy one ticket and can travel to many country by train, by bus or we can drive through countries with free movement.

After Doi Moi, 1986, Vietnam was doing vevry well. Before 1986, this was the hard time for country with the embargo of America and the collapse of Soviet block.
