Currently, a lot of Tony Gwynn and Kirby Puckett cards. Also, bat relics of the 500 home run club members. I also collect a rookie and an auto of players I liked when I was younger. That to me is the most enjoyable part.

Money is shifting to rare 90s parallels and inserts. Regardless of sport. Who can afford these stupid Ultra-modern wax prices?

I think it is ridiculous when people buy a Caleb Williams for $300 when he has really never proven himself. But you can pick up a future hall of famer like Chris Sale rookie for $5 in some cases. I will take the Chris Sale rookie any day over Williams. I prefer single stars I will never buy a new box or box breaks. I will buy vintage boxes though. There are more packs in vintage boxes and totally worth it.

i have never paid anyone to open a pack of cards for me🤣 but i am sure these gamblers are going to either 1. Get washed out like most gamblers who lose 2. Actually become a collector (doubt it) As for money moving into collectibles intresting point I would think the smart money goes into Vintage if it does go into cards out of a money market account. Good question though

The timing of the interest rate cut(s) are interesting as well for the Sports Card market.

The summer shows have ended, and finances will shift to Black Friday/Xmas spending (or perhaps catching up on ‘essentials’ over superfluous things, like collectibles).

With the 50 point / 0.5% reduction now and maybe up to 100 points / 1% reduction by next summer though, what will the pockets be like of some sports cards people next Spring ? I could see a small Spring spike for sports cards at that point. People will splash a little more cash (not ‘peak hobby COVID stimulus’ numbers), plus with NFTs having crashed and burned, that’s one less market people might put their extra cash into.

I think the biggest boom will be expanding American football to Europe and Mexico and Central and South America. If the NFL adds 8 more teams that is another 400+ players and 8 more QBs in the league. Then NFL cards will become collectible in other countries.

Due to the prices and the speculation nature that is partially leading to the increase in prices, I haven't bought a card since 2021. I may get back in when it settles down and prices drop but it's becoming a rich man's game.

In my opinion, buying a pack is akin to buying a lottery scratch ticket. Buying cards that you want is called collecting.
