that is so funny! I started 2x a month 5 years ago and gradually worked up to daily on YouTube! I started a Facebook page last year because I felt I could add it and not drop the ball. Prior to starting a YT channel I started a blog (8 years ago) with 3 posts a week then daily and I think you are right, if you start with something manageable you can make it into a habit and add on when you can. As long as it is a habit it is sustainable. Also, don't let the numbers be your motivation or you will never be happy. I just found your channel today and I am glad I did:) Also frequency is key! People will forget about you quickly in this age of content overload! Thanks!

I'm committed to posting once a week on my blog and twice on YouTube. Started in February and will see if engagement and subscriptions improve.

*Very solid advice*. I would add to that building up your skill to re-purpose your content across platforms. That makes the effort used in writing a blog post, worth more when translated into say, a podcast script.

All your vids just make me realise the same one thing... I need to post regularly and improve my content. Obviously I never had a problem with how often I need to post coz the answer is 'more often'.

We had to scale back on our YouTube videos recently...not fun for us. But, we were just not able to handle YT plus all of our other social media content. There are just two of us, and we realized there was only so much we could do. Our followers have understood and are still very supportive of our choice, so we're psyched about that. We've also found a sweet spot for most of our other social media (we're still keeping an eye on twitter just to see if more, less, or different is better). All in all we're happy with what going on. But, it did take us a while to get there. So, I hope people don't get discourage too soon. It's very rewarding when you start seeing your efforts paying off.

Another great vid, Amy. Thanks once again for sharing your experience!

My friend told me that when you 1st start blogging you should do 30 posts in 30 days. That's kind of overwhelming for me. She said that's how you get followers. I'm thinking twice a week to start is better.

An amusing video recommendation for this video was a Magnet Media, Inc video from 2012. Some slightly younger lady answering the same question but with a chair, candles - but no cabinet with interesting things on it.

I agree wholeheartedly Amy that without doing any type of videos, social media postings, etc, you have literally nothing to go off of.

When it comes to YouTube, I don't post on my channel because I don't really have my own branding, etc.  However just from my experience watching other channels, unless they have content twice a week at the minimum, usually they aren't successful.  I've seen exceptions such as ERB, Jenna Marbles, Glove and Boots, etc where the format allows only for one video a week unless they post an announcement of some sorts, etc.

When it comes to social media, I feel like it all depends on what industry you are in in terms of how much you post daily.   I worked for a video game developer as a community manager where I came up with plans for social media and came up with ways to engage our community and make it grow.  I felt it was best if we posted content at least once or twice a day so that way consumers can remain engaged with our product.  At the same time though, I made it a priority to engage with the consumer (whether it was a simple "Hi" or a support/feedback post) because that way, your consumers feel like you care about what they have to say and they know you're listening.

How often you should post depends entirely on the content itself, but I'm sure that goes without saying XD. Consistency is very important in my opinion...
