Interesting results in this Ableton Live benchmark between different CPUs and even computer systems!

(I said in the video that the MacBook Pro was the 2021 model, but its actually the 2020 model.)

I see that I wrote "48 Tracks" in the graphics in the video. It should be "42 Tracks", sorry about that.

For me it is very important, that you can run projects with a low buffer size, so I can play instruments spontaniously whenever I get an idea without having to modify the project to be able to. Finally, I see a first honest test that is not hyping the M1 chip. From the videos I´ve seen till now, I would have expected it to be much more powerful. Thanks for helping me getting rid of the gas. Good job!

I want to see this 7950x in action with vst like orchestras in kontakt, with mix plugins and with 120sample rate, this 120 still good latency to add any real instrument 🤓🤓🤓

I wonder how this will change with the higher clock rate of the M3 chips???

Really impressive test and it's still shining in 2024! Ryzen9 9900x/9950x's performance might be interesting for their nonsense core parking and CCX latency...

Can you test Reaper??? I use a build like your 3900X 64GB Ram etc, and I use it on an i7 with 32gb ram... I see very little difference but I am sure I am not pushing them as far as you may be.
Edit - I also use it on a 2015 Mac book air with an i5 and 8 gb ram- I can tell a difference there! it is mainly used for live mobile tracking though and just a hand full of tracks.

For mixing only purposes do you think a threadripper pro is the way to go?

I got the Arturia Analog Lab V, and have no idea whether their synths would be much more demanding than DIVA & SERUM etc. I'll be using learning Logic once I've bought it in a couple of months, and also wonder if M1 still fine for such soft-synth only setup compared to M2 Pro Mac Mini compared to M1 Mac Mini. I don't think u use them, as they don't feature on the channel/your workflow, but it doesn't stop me wondering lol

Can't wait to see what the new apple can do.
How about a 13900XS ? :) Perhaps get a sponsorship?

Congrats on your 7950X purchase.
I also got one at a discounted price in November for $550.
And an ASRock X670E Steel Legend mobo with 64GB RAM 2x32 DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo non RGB AMD EXPO OC profile 6000MHz CL32-38-38-96 1.40v.
And i've been comparing the 7950X to the upcoming X3D cache variant in February.
And from what's been announced it seems that the X3D variant will only be able to boost half of it's 16 cores to 5.7GHz while the other 8 with the stacked cache will go up to 5.0GHz. And i'm not a fan of that cause i prefer to be able to fully Overclock all 16 cores like the 7950X can do it.
And i've been thinking to myself that maybe the regular 7950X could remain a decent " tweaker's " CPU even after the X3D one comes out. Plus i'm pretty sure the X3D variant won't be sold at $550 at launch like i managed to buy my 7950X for $550 in November 2022. By the way i notice that your CinebenchR23 Multi Core score with the 7950X wasn't as high as i expected. I wonder why. Because with my 7950X with all BIOS Defaults NO Overclocking done not even on the RAM which is at 4800MHz default speed. I get 39093 points in Multi core and 2061 Points in Single Core with the 7950X in CinebenchR23. Which leads me to think that i might have a rare silicon lottery win CPU.
But i have yet to determine that by Overclocking it. It also idles at 30°C under a Noctua NH-D15 air cooler with 3x 140mm fans
