We just had the same issue, and I got a 4ft, 1x6 piece of poplar, and routed the edges with a double round-over...Slotted the back too. THEN I found your video and got confirmation that I wasn't crazy for doing it.

Great idea! I needed this. But my problem was rectangular. I suggested we buy a rectangular medallion but he opted to move the boxes. So much dust and so much more work than was necessary. We should have made your idea only rectangular!
