Is right now as good as it gets for Detroit sports with both the Lions and Tigers being successful? #tigers #lions #detroit

Mike severely underplays how much this town loves the wings. The Lions are definitely king but the wings are right up there with the tigers

When the Pistons were cooking in the 90s and 04....People cared...Bad Boys era, folks were all in

It’s the best time because it’s fall depression season and the tigers and the lions are keeping joy in our hearts

Why does Mike think that just because he doesn't care about the Wings or Pistons that everyone else cares as little as he does?

It’s “Hockeytown” but no one cares about the Wings, okay 😂

I'm actually pretty excited to see what the wings do this year.
Expectations are high, emotions will be a roller-coaster.

as a die hard red wings fan, i (partially) agree with the notion of the lack of interest for the red wings currently. even before the "rebuild" they were trending down for a while. and the rebuild years have been absolutely terrible with no help from lottery luck. once they start becoming consistently competitive, the interest will build again. last year we saw it when they were fighting for their playoff lives every game in late march/early april. but if you were to poll detroit/michigan sports fans on what teams they watch, i will guarantee wings are bottom of the list. that's just the reality.

In the immortal words of dorky Luke Skywalker " I care..." about the red wings and resent the local media for ignoring them

Lions, wings, tigers, wolverines. That’s it.

This is one of the only times I would agree with Rico over Mike here. 2002-2008 was a better era in Detroit sports by a mile compared to the past year. Pistons and Red Wings had won a combined 3 championships in a span of six years. There hasn’t been a parade on Woodward since that time period. As soon as the Red Wings start contending for the Stanley Cup again, the fan base will be back to what it was in the vintage Joe Louis Arena days

what a terrible take. the place is literally called hockey town and its one of the best hockey states in the country...and the wings have more championships in the last three decades than the tigers and lions combined in the same timespan

Sports are a rollercoaster... just look at the Patriots. The good times come and go.

I just look at whats happening with the Lions & Tigers as a positive. In a time where Wings and Pistons are mediocre and bad we have these other teams delivering a ray of hope that we may see SB or WS... How fucking great is that?

Respectfully disagree that nobody cares about the pistons or red wings. Those were literally everyone’s favorites teams growing up in the 2000s

Plenty of us grew up four sport fans, not our fault hockey gets the least media attention. But there’s more radio about the pistons flameshow than the wings.

The worst sports experiences I’ve ever had in person were regular season games at the palace. More energy at a high school basketball game. People are probably more engaged in hs or college hoops for the last two decades than the Pistons.

Can someone let Mike know that his cute little show isn't the barometer of hockey interest in Detroit? The Red Wings had nearly 2 million people at each of their four championship parades and they 100% own the city when they're contending. Even in the awful 2019-20 season, they were still selling out games at LCA.

Don't forget the luck of getting the Astros in a two game series early in two 1:30 pm games

I hate when Mike makes generalizations. “Everybody hates the Wings. Everybody hates the Pistons.” If ur a real Detroit sports fan, you want to see all sports succeed, even if you mainly watch or care about 1-2 of the sports. So I’m just gonna wish for the wings and pistons to be garbage just because they aren’t my two favorite sports to watch? It don’t work like that. I’m gonna not care about those teams when/if they eventually become dominant teams again? Again, it doesn’t work like that.

Well you know the old saying, the teams that are luckiest at the end of the Regular season some times stay lucky right through the playoffs.
Or wait was that the teams that are hot at the end of the season sometimes stay hot during the playoffs?

I agree hockey is too niche to ever be king (play thing is too far) when all teams are humming, but I think if the Pistons were title contenders the city would be fully onboard. Detroit is football first, basketball second in my opinion.
