WAIT, WHAT?! .. RIP! TERA is SHUTTING DOWN?

I'm genuinely kinda shocked. TERA may not have been a perfect MMO, I mean, sure, it has its flaws. A lot of flaws. Like, too many flaws for it to ever be worth playing long-term. Short-term? Heck yeah. It's a game you can come back to every so often and just have some fun in.
Where I'm trying to go with this though is that TERA is still a better MMO than most of the stuff we have right now.
But what we're here to talk about today is what is arguably the largest TERA-related announcement since En Masse shut down and gave publishing rights for North America over to Gameforge. And that is that TERA is shutting down.. in Japan. After being online for a grand total of 10 years.

All that's left is TERA EU and TERA KR now. How long until those shut down?

The combat in Tera is my all time favorite combat system in any MMO ever. The game just lacked proper depth to keep me hooked long-term, since the only real progression there ever was just gear progression. Nowadays the story and all the side content simply gets ignored due to sped up levelling, and majority of the world goes completely unseen because of it as well.

Wow I left TERA behind many years ago, but that game gave me almost everything Friends, a love story and many laughs that will never forget in my life. The game tho lost a lot in these years for me, but still sad to see it at risk of shutting world wide

Aw, TERA was the first MMO I really got into and spent a long time playing, , I loved the game so much.
I haven't played in a very long time, but it's sad to see something with such a special place in my memories go away ~

I will never forget the pure magic of logging into TERA for the first time on release day. It was a truly spectacular game at the time, and the repetitive questing system could be forgiven given the amazing combat in dungeons, against BAMs, and in raids. And the visuals! It made WoW look like a N64 game. The characters, the combat effects, the world environments -- everything was so well-done. I played the game for years and enjoyed every minute of it.
But the game didn't keep pace with the times, and there were many questionable design decisions over the years. I really wanted Elyon to be Tera 2.0; in fact, if they had just taken everything great about Tera (the visuals, the combat, the environments), slapped it into Unreal Engine 4 (or 5!), and fixed the questing system and story a little -- not a lot (it didn't need to become FF14) -- it would have been a perfectly solid game. But Elyon is a P2W abomination that no Western player I can think of is interested in.
It's all pretty heartbreaking. I really enjoyed my Priest and, when it was released, my Valkyrie. Perhaps I should break the game out for one last spin before it's gone forever.

This is heartbreaking because Tera was my favorite mmos of all time. I met so many of my friends I still talk to a decade later and had many fun adventures exploring the world. If Tera in the west closes I’m getting the guild back together for one final hurrah

I was just plaing this last week. I still enjoy it. I played it a few times every few weeks.

It's too bad it's shutting down, but 10 years is a good life for a game imo.

I really enjoyed my time in Tera some years ago. I remember when it was so populated. I was on the server Celestial Hills. had an absolute blast. what a sad end to Tera.

Other than the combat, I really enjoyed the visuals/art design, each map region felt very unique to explore. Without it, the bland, tedious questing/objectives would've felt even worse.

I want a proper Tera 2 with same race and classes but new updated world, Graphics, maybe even BDO combat and a good story and any other company than game forge to handle the EU release. Honestly game forge and Gamigo should be banned from the video game industry all together.

This is no surprise we all saw this coming especially when they started speed skipping everyone to the endgame in which was a bad idea turning it into a dungeon simulator

Hopefully someday they do a remaster or something with better progression not skip/speed progression to get more players excited and into it 🤔

Stix I don't know if that was intentional or not, but I found that line hysterical. Coffee spitting hysterical. I indeed laughed out loud. Good for you in planning on more wifing. And bad for us all that we get to watch the sun set on another genre defining (action combat) for it's time, MMO.
