Disease

Rats can carry and spread diseases like plague, typhoid, jaundice, and skin diseases. The bacterium that causes leptospirosis, a form of jaundice, can be found in rat urine and can survive in wet areas. 



Control

Farmers in Bangladesh often use rat poison to control the rat population, but its effectiveness is questionable. Some community control measures include:

Flooding, digging, or fumigating rat burrows
