Hi there.

I don't comment on your videos very often, but Mr. Rogers is such an important figure to me in a way that I think is very representative for other Americans.

I grew up very poor, in a single parent household where that parent was usually drinking away what little money he had. I did not have a very strong support network, even at the earliest of ages. What I did have was unfettered access to television in the early 90's.

I could have chose to watch anything at any time - no one was paying attention. But I loved Mr. Rogers. He felt like the parent I didn't have. He taught me important life lessons, and never wavered in his faith in me or anyone else. He made you feel like there was a safe place in the world somewhere for you, even for just a little while.

He was a very special man. I can't think of many others I hold in as high esteem. I truly believe he helped save me and so many others when we had no one else to help us.

RIP to one of the best human beings to ever live. 143.

My European friend, I am now a 73 year old man. I had the great pleasure to have worked with Fred Rogers in 1970 and 1972. I am from the Pittsburgh PA area and did my college internship at. WQED-TV where where Mr. Rogers neighborhood was videotaped and distributed throughout America. Mr. Fred Rogers was one of the most influential people in my time as an 18 and 19 year-old college student working with him taught me so much about the value of being kind.

One of my favorite stories about Mr. Rogers is when a little blind girl wrote to him and said that she watched every day. She loved his show, but she had a concern about something. She knew he had an aquarium with fish, but she rarely heard him say that he fed them. He fed the fish every episode, but he didn't necessarily say that he was doing so. She was worried about his fish. She was concerned that they weren't eating enough and were hungry. After he received the letter he made it a point to say "Let's feed the fish." every single episode before sprinkling the fish flakes in the tank. He was such a good, kind, special person that he went out of his way to calm the anxieties of one little girl, and give her validation that her concerns were important. If more people were like Mr. Rogers the world would be a much better place.

Fun fact: Mr. Roger’s mom made him a cardigan sweater every Christmas. He proudly wore each one on the show. One of those cardigans is now in the Smithsonian Museum.

Mr. Rogers gets us all emotional, don't apologize. The fact that he reaches you like that just shows you're a decent person.

I think one of his best teachings was, "Look for the helpers."
Per Fred Rogers: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping."

Children who grew up watching his show ADORE Fred Rogers. Try to watch his testimony before the US Senate.

I’m 61 years old and I remember watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood when I was a small child in the 1960’s. Mr. Rogers continued to produce his show from 1968 to 2001. In that time, he helped children through the 9/11 attacks, how to deal with divorce, being in a single parent household, remarrying, stepbrothers and stepsisters, death, people from other cultures, people with different religions, different skin colors, people with disabilities, etc. Fred Rogers was a minister as well as an educator. He also famously testified in front of Congress in support of Public Television. Fred Rogers was a very, very special man. He made a difference to a lot of people.

I was one of those children who didn't have peace or support. Mr. Rogers encouraged me, took me on trips to see how things are made. Fostered my curiosity and helped me to love to learn. That was my quiet, peaceful time. We never get tired of the compassionate words, heart and encouragement.

Mr Rogers helped me handle watching my Dad die of cancer in the 70s. I was about 14 and would have been mercilessly bullied if anyone knew I was secretly watching a kids' show. I already was being serverly bullied. He helped me handle it all.

Mr. Rogers got on the NY subway one day. Within seconds everyone on the train car sang the theme song to Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. He was extraordinary. Solid as a stone and warm as a summer breeze. A deeply loving human being.

You never have to apologize for tearing up, when Mr Rogers speaks. He would consider your tears of empathy to be one of the greatest compliments a person could give. One of his core messages was that both children and adults should be free to express their feelings. So, you and your tears are just fine the way they are.

When I was a kid in the 80s, my crying elicited threats of violence. "Stop crying, or I'll give you something to cry about, " was a threat countless kids heard from parents with the emotional depth of a street puddle, my own included. But, Mr Rogers was always there, to remind me that my feelings were normal and not something to be feared, scorned, or suppressed. Long after I would have been considered too old for his show, I tuned in regularly, just to have his voice on in the background. He made me feel safe at a time that that was really rare. And, I have so much gratitude for the safe spaces he so generously provided, just hearing his voice today makes me weep. Please watch all the Mr Rogers content you want. I'm absolutely here for it.
