James, did you ever get this script to work? I too cannot load a python script as a standalone script from outside QGIS 3. I typed your code line-by-line to load a layer (I flagged QGIS so I could see the interface). No matter what I try I always get "Invalid Data Source", saying my py script is an invalid data source. Any ideas? Thanks
