This Channel Seven Perth historic News story features changes that took place in Perth between the 1950's and 1970's.

The Swan River crossing between Perth and Victoria Park first consisted of two wooden bridges on either side of Heirisson Island, which were eventually replaced by the present pair of concrete and steel Causeway bridges in 1952.

After almost sixty years of service, the Perth tramways were gradually phased out over a decade, up until 1958.

The first portion of the Kwinana Freeway, from the Narrows Bridge to the Canning Bridge, was completed in 1959, the year TVW Channel 7 first began broadcasting.

Decimal currency was introduced in 1966, later followed by our conversion to metric weights and measures.

The first section of the Mitchell Freeway, from the Narrows Bridge, was commenced in 1967.

A period when a young Brian Burke was a journalist with TVW, before entering politics in 1973, and became the state premier ten years later.

That part where they rip up the tram-line....it breaks my heart... :(

A lot of people confuse the change to decimal currency in 1966 with the change to Metric (and subsequently SI) measurements in 1972. Channel 7 has done so here. They are actually two separate, unrelated events, although done for the same reason - computers were thick as in those days, and going up or down the units by shifting a decimal point helped them immensely.

Anyone remember Bernie’s the burger joint in the city. Started out as a caravan and turned into a favourite burger place. Mmmmm old 88 burger was the best

Fifty years ago I think I walked up every set of stairs and every lift downtown Perth selling Royal Typewriters. It was my first job when I came to Australia. The world has changed so much since.

@runescapeownsnubs don't insult the city in which I live. I don't care if you live here too, but I love Perth, because it's where I was born, and it's where I will stay.

Yep...classic channel 7 news reporting rubbish. Power steering had been long ago invented way back in 1926. Good on ya CH7 always a well researched story.
