Really really great job on this video. You not only showed 'Hey here's this software its cool' you showed how it works!

Such a great app. Was using Resilio Synch (formerly Bit Synch) but the new licensing is ridiculously expensive. This does the job just as well for me.

That's a really top-notch presentation Jakob.

I have a question for anyone who may know the answer to this...  How does SyncThing locate a peered machine over and internet connection that's on a dynamic WAN IP?  Would you need to set up a dynamic DNS account, or does the connection happen automagically?  Is a port-forwarding rule needed in the router?

You can get syncthing to stop opening the browser on start, by going to "actions" menu in the syncthing ui, then select settings, and untick start browser.

hello, I have a locked volume (qnap ts251 +) with very important files and I don't remember the password. Do you know any way to unlock the volume? Thank you very much in advance.

Also is it possible to preview what changes will be made before the actual sync?

Great Jacob. Didn't knew this app, but it seems I'm going to give it a try ;) Keep on the good job. Cheers.

Can you put symbolic links in the default Sync folder, instead of adding directories? And thank you for this tutorial...

Will syncthing work even though the GUI is not running? just like bitorrentsynch....

Better or worse that BTSync? I currently have BT Sync setup between a hosted VPS and 4 different computers at different locations. I don't think BT Sync does a great job at using its "peers" to sync to new users. Right now 3 of the 5 locations have a full copy of the data but the last 2 aren't getting the data any faster than the first 3 computers. I would have thought that the more peers online the faster it would begin syncing the data since it can pull from anyone with the data...

Just to give you an idea, we are syncing around 600GB of data or so.

Let me know if you think Syncthing would work any better for us

1) Which side takes priority? Is it possible to tell it to update in one direction only (deletions, changes, new files etc)?

You mentioned both computers need to be on, but what if I won't have access to one of the computers for awhile and just want to keep updating files on one of them. When I later (say a few weeks later) turn on the 2nd computer again, will it be able to sync all of the changes I made while the 2nd computer was off and while I was only using the 1st computer?
