This is interesting. Personally, I think that Indycar needs something, that saves the head, more, than Formula 1. The Risk of something hitting someone is so much higher, since they're all so close together on oval circuits

Translation F1 teams made their own screens off their own backs and messed up, Indy car went straight to a Jet fighter cockpit maker and got theirs made right 1st time out.

only thing i'm wandering... Indycar only shows impact results, while the Halo (yes its ugly like most safety things) can actually protect from impact and also supports the car during impact.
The Halo is adding alot more to the car than a debree shield

The aeroscreen works great, I have have watched a number of in car Indy car runs at Laguna Seca and they are excellent ...

The main issue is the one that Scott explained.. the F1 cockpits are flat in front of the pilot, it's like looking out of a FW-190 from WWII.. of course the view will be distorted by the glass curve; you need to lower and slope the noses of F1s to allow the employement of aeroscreen. But they won't, because besides re-doing chassis for crash tests, they'd lose some aero efficiency. And thus we have the darn thongs..

I read a lot of comments concerning the aesthetics of a halo or shield. I say who gives a shit what it looks like ? If it will protect a driver from flying debris or help eliminate head injuries, then it's worth it. Maybe if this technology had been in place a few years ago, Justin Wilson would still be alive.

Great point, it will be interesting to hear if any F1 driver complaints about visibility approaching eau rouge in Spa, or even sooner with turns 8-11 in Baku. There's already issues with the starting lights having to be re-positioned because the Halo blocked the drivers view, and again with the pit box release lights. The Halo will need to go through some major design changes in the coming seasons if its going to stick around.

A better question. Why didn’t F1 go the Indycar route? The aeroscreen can work.

Indycar, F3, GP3, F2 and a few other open wheel sports are much more dangerous than F1. And yet F1 is pushes through the halo and indycar which to me is the most dangerous is relaxing and taking its time to perfect things. This is why management in F1 needs a change

F1 drivers are going to have a lot of issues in Spa and Eau Rouge because as Scott says the HALO will be obscuring their sight going up the hill.

Interesting to watch this video in 2019 when the halo have saved 2 lives and indycars has nothing implemented yet. Interesting.

F1 did test this windscreen, they hit it with a flying tire and it couldn't stop it from hitting the driver's head, you can see the video on you tube, why would Indycar use a device that failed the test, best looking one and safest was the full canopy, but F1 scrapped that because it's cheaper to add halos .

*_0:27_**_ that should have been the one they are using now. It looks way better_*

The skeletonized look of the halo looks better in an open wheel (exposed suspension arms) of the car.

Did I just hear Scott call F1 out for not trying hard enough or get the right partners to develop the screen. Seems the FIA had an agenda and suck to it.

That thumbnail is like a sole explanation tho.

I feel like after the horrific crash the other day, and how Hunter-Reay barely escaped a car to the head, the Indy Cars should definitely be taking a route similar to the F1 series.

Honestly, Halo is better.
It doesn't disrupt the air intake, it provide air to the drivers.

Oh No...the aeroscreen wont work, just ask any fighter pilot.
