A top tier Ford UAW member was making over $28/hr in 2006. 17 years later, that same worker makes $32.32/hr. In 2006 the average new vehicle cost was $24, 000. Today, the average cost of a new vehicle is over $48, 000. That's a 100% price increase in new vehicle cost compared to a measly 12% top tier worker pay increase. Add in temp workers at less than $17/hr and 2nd tier workers who make far less than their counterparts with no pension or healthcare, you get a system that just doesn't work for the working class.
