At one point my local pet shop had a rule that if a cricket were to be spotted in a place other than the immediate vicinity of the cricket container, the person who saw and reported it was allowed to claim it. Several times I claimed crickets in this way and set them free outside (there was a large patch of grass near the pet shop)!

Crickets seem to develop or mature like some cockroaches; they grow wings when they are fully matured and the wings act as part of courtship. However, some roaches don't have wings and some have wings already.
