VERY heads up by mattingly. He knew posey was batting out of order, but waited till after the at bat.  He knew it was a free out.

I was at that game and immediately knew he was out of order. Smart heads up move by Mattingly though I'll give him that

Posey was not called out. The proper batter is declared out.

At about 1:19, there is a remark about "the batter would be deemed out".  Not in this case.  Here, the batter hit one spot too early, and doubled, scoring the runner from 3rd base, and the opposing manager came out right then and discussed the batting order.  So the batter who was SUPPOSED to hit then was called out, the runner who scored had to go back to 3rd, and the double was nullified (the batter who hit it had to bat again, now in the proper order).

Posey was NOT out! The guy who was the proper batter was out. Runners return. Way to go announcers.

How does a Major League team bat out of order? lol.

Actually Sandoval was declared out and Posey bats again.

For those saying what to do if Posey made an out, let it stand (Other than a sac fly, I guess). Proper batter is now Pence. If Sandoval goes to bat, you have the same situation again.

If Sandoval goes to bat and makes out #3, then the proper batter to lead the 2nd inning is Posey. If Pence goes to lead the inning, we have the same situation yet again.

The title of this video is incorrect.  Posey was NOT out.  Sandoval was.

I never saw something like that before. That was a good hit too by Posey, that sucks.

Smart play by Mattingly to let Buster complete the AB.

What made this even harder to swallow as a Giants fan was that this was payback by Mattingly for when Bochy made him change his pitcher for making two trips to the mound.

Actually, the proper batter(Sandoval) was out. They made Posey bat again.

I don't think I've ever seen this happen. Wow.

You don't see this often at the pro level but I see it pretty often umpiring high school and travel ball. Batter who hit out of order is out, so Posey is out and then he would come back and hit again.
