Hello everyone!
In this video I am covering an alt history scenario in which the 4th crusade does not happen, and I discuss whether this would have been enough for the Byzantines to avoid their fate.

The only problem is: you literally can't do worse than the 1180-1204 period, so there will be a resurgence from a better vantage point. Especially since the ERE will probably still ally the Mongols.

I doubt that it would’ve fell still. I think either the Komnenmoi or Laskris or Palaeologos could take power and restore order

The Byzantine Empire went through many internal conflicts and stages of weakness, but it always came back again, and Constantinople was always considered the fortress in which the Byzantines took refuge in order to return again, but this strategy no longer worked after Europe emerged from the stage of barbarism to the stage of organized states since the Byzantines became surrounded from the west like the east and no longer faced barbarian European who could easily be manipulated

I don't think the empire would collapse, in our time line the Latins took Constantinople and still most of the Anatolian Lands wernt taken by the Mongols and empire has gone through tons of civil wars and that never collapsed the empire, honestly if a semi competent dynasty gets incharge of the empire I can see them take back most of Anatolia from the collapsing ilkanate and swoop up the land from the small beyliks. And by the 1300s the week Bulgarian and Serbian empires would also be ripe for conquest. The question is how competent future dynasties would be the more competent the bigger the country would be. Bye the 15 and 1600s the eastern Roman's would have a new Allie in Russia who would protect the empire even if it was declining and weak.

Wrong. The wealth that the barbarian crusaders stole from constadinople, would had been used to keep the turks away from anatolia, and Europe in general, as it happened with many other nomads invaders from the east in the past. But the crusaders stripped the city from everything of value, and transported them to their countries. Many pieces of art and thousands of manuscripts were also destroyed, in situ, depriving the next generations( until now) from ancient knowledge of millenia.
