The Weird Yellow Ochre in My Painting Palette

Can you guess how this “weird yellow ochre?” came to be? Teaching Artist Lauryn Welch shows us the 3 colors in her palette that create this painting. I never mix my own yellow ochre so I am very baffled by this 😂! Maybe Naples Yellow with a touch of Prussian blue and a tiny bit of burnt Sienna?!?

Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. She has been profiled in Artsy, Hyperallergic, KPCC, & WBUR.

can you explain the reasoning for using fluid acrylic over regular acrylic ? just curious.

Okok I really want to understand more about picking between those synthetic reds, like naphthol, pyrrole, quinacridone, Azo, perylene, anthraquinone reds. I genuinely do NOT have a good feel for the differences between them. Cad red I understand it's like the red of reds and opaque AF.
