Two Super-Rare PRS Guitars, Two Worlds Apart…

When PRS design such a special guitar like a Dragon model they will make several prototypes to ensure everything is perfect before they commit to the final design. PRS are incredibly proud of their prototype instruments and they are often offered to premium PRS dealers to put up sale, PRS believe that an instrument of this quality and caliber would be wasted locked up in their vaults, it deserves to be cherished and played.

We are incredibly honoured to be able to offer a prototype version of the critically acclaimed 35th anniversary Dragon model, this may just be one of the rarest PRS models out there.

What's more, we raided the Peach Vault and dusted off an original 1985 PRS Custom 24, so you folks can take a closer look at how Paul's original idea has evolved!

Let us know your favourite in the comments below, and if you're lucky enough to own an original PRS or a crazy limited edition model like the Dragon, tell us what you've got!

Damn the dragon has sold. Was going to buy it and start learning to play.

I have an 88 Custom 24 with Ten top. The mini toggle switch was called the “Sweet Switch” and took a bit of the top end off for overdriven solos - instant woman tone, if you like. The rotary switch used to eat the speed knobs when I was playing it every day.
Bought mine from Chandlers in Kew

As cool as the old 80s/early 90s PRS guitars are for their historical value and vibe, it has been my experience that PRS guitars in the last 5 or so years play like butter, absolutely better than anything up to this point in their history. I really feel like they're dialing in their pickups more lately as well, with the TCI business. The Silver Sky is among the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever played, Strat or otherwise.

That 85 sounds amazing. The 5 way rotary pickup selector is great and I believe the switch is to compensate for long stage guitar cables.

The pickups in that old PRS have some kind of magic going on.

I have owned three separate PRS guitars and each is better than the other. I had a '97 CE 24 which I loved but sold once I bought a '11 DGT, which is an unbelievable instrument. For me the DGT is the most versatile guitar I'd ever encountered, capable of hard rock LP sound as well as subtle single coil Strat like tones. Well, it was the most versatile for me until I recently got a '20 Special 22 Semi Hollow, limited edition in stunning ocean blue in artist package. This guitar is absolutely incredible and evidence that PRS never stops innovating. That guitar has both extreme versatility and unrivaled articulation and clarity. Best clean tones I've ever heard and absolutely rips with distortion. I am totally in love with the pickups in this guitar! Anyway, well done PRS, and we'll done Peach Guitars. And Jack, your playing is amazing! Btw, I finally decided to get the Special after watching you play it on this channel. You really make it sing like I can only dream of. 👍

Man that dragon fingerboard is overkill by a factor of Talk about gilding the lily…

The sweet switch basically tries to mimic the effect of plugging in to a 100ft cable. It was made for Santana when he moved over to a wireless setup on stage but still wanted the sound characteristics of using a long instrument cable

That red PRS is the first PRS I've ever actually liked the sound of (outside of the Silver Sky or Fiore...)

Both are awesome guitars. I'd take the Dragon only because I have plenty of other PRS guitars to play!

I have played a lot of PRS guitars 🎸 over the years from the very beginning of the brand and although I recognize their build quality I have never wanted to buy one. The only model that I would consider is a DGT

I have an 87 like that one but without the fancy top. Just one piece Mahogany. I bought it new back then. The 5 way switch is 1. neck humbucker, 2. "Strat" sound, split coils out of phase, 3. both Humbuckers, 4. some quacky wacky combo of humbuckers, 5. bridge humbucker. As others have said the switch is to mimic the resistance of a 100 ft. cable. It acts as a sort of tone switch but is not nearly as versatile as a tone pot. It plays like a dream. The neck is Brazilian rosewood which, as we know, is not available. She's a beaut!

Hi @Peach Guitars . I have an issue, please help & suggest if you can!. I own a PRS SE santana singlecut (gold-finished), the guitar has fantastic playability & super cool TCI pickups. Now the issue is it doesn't has coilsplits, & having a solid mahagony body, the tone is too fat & dark. Is there any possibility of achieving a single-coil brighter tone by using a good EQ pedal(like MXR or Keyztone exchanger) ? Or still i wont be able to get a brighter single coil tone ? Please help.
