She passed away almost 9 years ago. I remember back in college our instructor would always play video about her advocacy. She truly remarkable and always full of hope.

I'm reading her book - Unbowed a memoir - at the moment for a summer reading assignment and I am grateful that I was introduced to this book because it really is inspiring to see someone who was so disadvantaged to rise so high with the purpose of improving her country despite its own governance opposing her.

A tree does have a personality, that personality is it's soul. I have a friend, shes a 🌳, I have cried with her, laughed with her, I love her and I know she loves me too. She always listens, never judges and gives great hugs. Shes around maybe 300 yrs old and is listed so shes safe from being murdered. I call her mother.

How inspiring this was to watch! "It all started with planting that one tree." I love the idea of teaching people to be self-sufficient and to pass the baton to others, the younger ones. The pride they take in their project is amazing.

Thank you Dr. Maathai for all you have done for uplifting the women of your country. Learning them about the environment, helping them through that teaching to better their circumstances.

Wangari Maathai has been my heroine and role model for many years. She fought her government, full of men, recruited women to save her country by simply planting trees!!
