INSANE VR Transformer! Pimax Portal is NOT what I expected…

I checked out the craziest Vr Handheld hybrid I have ever seen! Pimax Portal is a handheld device that is transformed to become a budget VR headset, and in the future it will be able to do so much more! But what state is it in now and whom is it for?

Super important difference between this Pimax Portal and Google Cartboard, is that cartboard relied on the phone accelerometer to detect head movement in 3DoF, whereas this Pimax will use cameras similar to Quest 2 and will be much more accurate.

The motion blur is fixable with software. They need to add a technique called "black frame insertion". GearVR used it when it was in full VR mode rather than just "cardboard" mode.

Still seems strange that while in handheld mode it does not function like Leia Inc's Lume Pad tablet or their other prospective "ready to partner" screen add-on layers. I wonder if Pimax even thought about using it?

Leia Inc's tech is similiar but not implemented the same way LookingGlassFactory does their tech.

LGF - More viewable active angles (More Resource Intensive)
Leia Inc - Stereo Head-Tracking (Less overall viewable total active angles.) Less Resource Intensive.

Motion blurr? Like how the cardboard vr apps had this drift to it? The headset that had no drift was gearvr it worked similar to the quest, movements were steady with no drifting.

I agree it's a cool idea but I don't think they should be selling something that is a proof of concept since it's not actually finished

So I think the Pimax portal will be a letdown. It has far too little graphics power. It is significantly slower than the Steam Deck.
It is also not possible to install and play Steam games with it. Games like "the callisto protocol" will never run with it. The hardware is just too weak. It's nothing and nothing whole. It runs on android! Android is a very bad choice for this device! The Steam Deck shows how it's done, everything works right here!

I don't find the pimax crystal interesting either. The FOV is way too small. I own a Pimax 8KX and bought it because of the large FOV. I wouldn't go back to small FOV. It's boring for me. Then I prefer to keep my Pimax 8KX!

Also, 1 year ago, Pimax also announced the Pimax 12k with large FOV. Why are there no more updates from the Pimax 12K with large FOV? I don't want a small FOV! The FOV must be huge!
When is the Pimax 12K coming? It should be out now in December! One often feels cheated by Pimax!

Please check for yourself! Pimax 12K has been announced by Pimax! Pimax even showed a video on their youtube channel.

Well I would have to side with Kevin vs Sadley. Motion blur can be fixed. And is Demonstrated as such with the other Qualcomm XR2 hmds running standalone mode. Fun fact Qualcomm was working on this device idea over a year ago(google it). So it seems Qualcomm partner with pimax instead of releasing it themselves.
